WORK DESCRIPTION

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Heat and Frost Insulators enhance internal environments to sustain optimal temperatures and make them safer for people and equipment. We insulate many items, including mechanical systems, hot and cold piping, ducts, boilers, and breechings. Our work requires math knowledge and aptitude.

In addition, our work requires the ability to work off ladders or scaffolding and in hot and cold conditions.

Heat and Frost Insulators jurisdiction covers 72 Counties in Missouri and Illinois, and our contractor’s work demands may require travel as far as 150 miles from St. Louis, Missouri.

Apprentice wages range from $21.32-$34.10
Journey level wages range from $39.94-$46.63

Applications are available daily at the UNION OFFICE located at

Applicants may also go to our website, www.insulators1.org, and download the application and bring the application and copies of all the required documents and the $25.00 cashier’s check or money order. Applicants that appear in person to receive the application need to bring copies of the required documents with them.

Individuals receiving the APPLICATION PACKAGE shall return the COMPLETED APPLICATION, including copies of the following documents within FIFTEEN DAYS OF RECEIPT of the APPLICATION PACKAGE.

Any individual who returns the application and documents after the FIFTEEN DAYS shall be noted on the applicant log as being ineligible for consideration at this time.

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Copy of Birth Certificate
  • Copy of Driver’s License (No State IDs)
  • Copy of High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • A $25.00 NON – REFUNDABLE application fee paid by Cashier’s Check or Money Order made payable to HEAT AND FROST INSULATORS LOCAL 1 JATC.

The $25.00 Application Fee will be waived for the following individuals:
• Honorably Discharged Veterans with a DD214
• Graduates of the STBCTC BUD Program
• Graduates of the SWIC HCCTP
• Graduates of MOKAN

Applicants may also go to our website, www.insulators1.org, and download the application and bring the application and copies of all the required documents and the $25.00 cashier’s check or money order. Applicants that appear in person to receive the application need to bring copies of the required documents with them. We will not be making copies due to COVID-19. No Exceptions.

WHERE TO APPLY?

Applicants will be notified at a later date to be determined by the JATC regarding assessment testing. The assessment test will consist of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions decimals, converting fractions to decimals, decimals to fractions, and word problem-solving.

• Applicants who do not meet or exceed the minimum passing score of 70 percent will be removed from the pool of applicants.

• Applicants who meet or exceed the minimum score of 70% will be placed on a list of eligible applicants.

• Eligible Applicants will be notified when the JATC determines there is a need to accept Apprentices into the program for WORK KEYS ACT testing and interviews.

• Applicants selected after the interview process will be accepted into the apprenticeship program.

• All other Eligible Applicants shall remain on the Eligible List for a 2-year period.

TRAINING PROGRAM

Classes are held bi-monthly on 4 consecutive days beginning at 7:30 AM and ending at 3:00 PM during the normal work week. Classes are held 10 months of the calendar year with 2 months off for the summer. Apprentices are required to serve a Probation Period of 800 hours before they are admitted into the local union. Apprentices must complete the required number of classroom training hours, and on-the-job learning hours in addition to being able to perform the work that was taught throughout the year to advance to the next level. Instruction in a variety of mechanical systems with different types of insulation and prefabrication is taught both on-the-job and in the classroom.
