WORK DESCRIPTION

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Glaziers put the glitter and gleam in today’s buildings as they cut, fabricate and install metal window systems including aluminum doors, storefronts, curtain walls, and skylights.

Glaziers’ tasks include cutting, handling, and setting all types of glass, mirrors, and structural glass from ground level to great heights and applying chemicals, primers, and sealants used on the frames and glass they install.

Glaziers emphasize professionalism, management skills, and character building, which makes our tradesmen the most resourceful and knowledgeable workforce in the glazing industry.

Apprentice wages range from $20.63-$23.81.
Journey level wages range from $41.25-$45.00.

  • Applicant must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • A valid driver’s license with reliable transportation
  • Must pass a drug test, and a background check
  • Applicant must be physically fit enough to be able to perform the work of a Glazier. This includes but is not limited to not having acrophobia (fear of heights), climbing multiple flights of stairs carrying a variance of heavy materials, climbing ladders, and carrying a variance of heavy materials. A Glazier performs a repetitive range of motion allowing access to a large portion of our work. This includes working on the knees for extended periods, manually erecting large window frames, and framing sections over 20’ tall.

Desired skills in prospective applicants:

  • Mechanically inclined: Likes to work with their hands.
  • Mathematically adept: Possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions.
  • Physical abilities to work in all of the temperatures St. Louis has to offer year-round.
  • Not afraid of heights, hard worker, punctual, respectful, attentive, and eager to learn.

TRAINING PROGRAM

Glazier Apprentices receive 4 years of Federally approved training by skilled journeyperson glazing instructors, along with technical adult classes covering C.P.R., first aid, back injury prevention, OSHA-10 and OSHA-30, safety glazing codes, rigging and hoisting, door hardware, blueprint reading, arc welding 1 and 2, glass handling and cutting, shop fabrication, curtainwall fabrication and installation, doors and associated hardware, storefront fabrication and installation, scaffold and swing stage set-up and much more.
