WORK DESCRIPTION

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Painters and Decorators apply decorative and protective finishes in residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial settings. They prepare a variety of surfaces (wood, masonry, drywall, plaster, concrete, synthetics, stucco, and metal) prior to the application of materials such as paint, high-performance coatings, waterproofing, fireproofing, varnish, shellac, wall coverings, and special decorative finishes.

Drywall finishers (or tapers) prepare unfinished interior drywall panels for painting by taping and finishing joints and imperfections. More information and informational videos can be found on our website HERE.

Apprentice wages range from $20.23-$35.57.
Journey level wages range from $39.40.

TRAINING PROGRAM

We are a DOL registered and approved 4 year apprenticeship program. It requires 20 school days (160 hours) of successful completion and at least 1300 hours of on the job learning per year.

By completing our apprentice program successfully you will not only be a skilled and well trained member of our trades, but you will also earn 45 college credits that cost you nothing additional out of pocket when you enroll into Jefferson College (or another partner program) to complete an Associate Degree in applied science (with as little as three online courses).

Apprentices receive four years of training in painting, drywall finishing, wallpapering, abrasive blasting, safety, and decorating. Most of the training is conducted on the job, but apprentices also attend 20 days of classroom training per year. Apprentices are first placed on a 90-day probationary period.
