WORK DESCRIPTION

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Sheet metal workers are unique in the construction industry as the only trade that designs, manufactures, and installs our own products. The term “sheet metal” refers to any metal that can be formed into flat pieces of varying thicknesses.

Using specialized tools, this skilled craftsperson takes ordinary types of flat metal and makes them into specialized products for various duct and ventilation systems, as well as architectural and specialized metal fabrication. Members of the trade are proud of its special distinction: They not only build; they create.

Applications are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (except holidays) and accepted on the first Wednesday of each month. Applicants must take a general aptitude exam in reading, math, spatial relations, and mechanical comprehension. After completing the application and successfully passing the aptitude exam, the applicant is scheduled for an interview prior to placement on a contact list.

TRAINING PROGRAM

Apprentices will attend an average of 4 weeks of training annually. Classes begin at 7:00 am and end at 3:30 pm. The apprenticeship is 10,000 hours of both classroom and on-the-job training, with raises at every 1,000-hour mark. Classes will include Construction Math, Sheet Metal Layout, Architectural Metal, Welding, HVAC Service, and many more aspects of our trade.
